The Solis & Luna War. The origin of werewolves isn't quite known. Some say they are a disease born from demons to cleanse the earth of humanity. Others preach that they are the children of the moon. More will tell you that nature is chaos and she has no rhyme or reason to the things she will do. This wasn't good versus evil. It was a fight for dominance steeped in fear, misunderstanding, and prejudice. Power is tempting and intimidating; it lures you to death like a slow-acting poison bathed in sweet perfume. Knowledge, without wisdom, is the seed to war. That seed, in the Solis & Luna war, was the discovery of weakness. Prior to the war, the weaknesses of werewolves were unknown. This absence of a weapon for humans enabled werewolves to be the apex predators of the realm. While most werewolves kept to themselves, it would be a lie to say none ever preyed on the vulnerability of humans. In time, people discovered the means to tip the scale in their favor. They realized werewolves were strongest during the full moon and weakest during the new moon. More importantly, they learned that silver and decapitation were the means for slaying a werewolf. And so the children of day and night ravaged the earth and fought to eliminate one another. The war persisted for five years, until werewolves disappeared from human memory. It has been one-hundred years now and most humans suspect werewolves have been driven to extinction. But the Children of the Moon still roam the night. They are fewer in number now and have lingered in the shadows of myth to ensure their continued survival. |
